here's me construction major assignment

i used renzo piano and looked at the kansai international airport in osaka. it was a really cool use of steel which is actually a realy versatile material to build with.

pretty happy now its done

these photos are from the shop section of mitre 10, they arent portal frame but a truss roof. steel columns are cladded with timber to make them match the time trusses

mitre 10 warehouse

These pictures are from the timber storage warehouse at mitre ten. they are all examples of portal frame construction very similar to bunnings warehouse suggesting that it is easily the easiest/cheapest way to create a long span with steel. you can clearly see the downpipe of what would be a box gutter running in between the two points of the warehouse. the pipe is fairly big as it would need to cope with a large volume of water even though there was another only 15m to the right.

this article focuses on the Weltstadthaus by Renzo Piano, a steel construction, multi storey bulding in Cologne. it mainly focuses on the effect this building has on the surrounding, much older town. the article seems to be in the affirmative for the building without much thought of negative effects on the surround. the building is ultra modern in a slightly more traditional setting which makes it really stand out from the rest but also making them all seem a bit old and decrepid. steel construction in general and especially teamed with copious amounts of glass seem to have this kind of effect on surrounding buildings more strickingly if they are old. the building kind of hangs of another like a leech. steel construction has the capacity to include the surrounds more than what was done here.

construction assignment

my architect i have decided to use is Renzo Piano, he uses a lot of steel in his construction and i really liek the Kansai International Airport in Osaka. it is an artificial island with the airport on it and the main terminal roof spans a really long distance using three parallel, bending, steel tubular beams which are joined by smaller tubular purlins.

gutter details

here are the pictures of the gutter details..
